A short, fun, kayaking trip, close to Kathmandu with the feel of a mini expedition: blue water, boulder garden rapids, an unspoiled valley and a good Mountain View.
The Balephi Khola is one of the smaller tributaries of the Sun Koshi, joining that river a short distance upstream of Dolalghat and only 70 kilometers from Kathmandu. The Balephi valley is off most trekking routes and ignored by guidebooks so is relatively unspoiled with very picturesque villages and friendly people.
Rafting: Not recommended
The perfect river if you have only a short amount of time. It combines some good paddling, a short trek and overnight stay, so makes a good warm up river and offers an ideal introduction to kayaking in Nepal.
A boulder garden type river with great playing, fairly narrow, with many huge boulders and with a very steady gradient, beautiful blue water, rapid follows rapid and so with non-stop eddy action this is a kayakers dream river.
